Today was the last day of the project in Japan. After going to the airport, we said goodbye to the Bosnian students. Although we are going to meet each other again in Bosnia, we were all sad. It has been a marvelous experience for us to share our lives together with someone from a different country. At first, we were all worried if we could get along with each other. The difference in culture made communication harder and we couldn’t open our hearts at first. But as we spent time together, we slowly started to get closer. And by now, they are all our precious friends. The 10 days in Japan was a flash. I still tend to look beside me to check if my pair is with me, but it makes me sad that he is not here in Japan with me anymore. It makes me emotional to look at the pictures we took. The memories we made will always be my treasure. This 10 days that we spent together always be the most memorable 10 days of my life.

今日は、校内でボスニアフェスタが行われました。
Today was the last day at school for the Bosnian students, and we had three main activities. First, during the morning presentations done by the Japanese students, I saw that a lot of the Bosnian students were actively asking questions and participating which I believe was a nice last opportunity for the non-exchange Japanese students to interact more with the Bosnian students. This also connects to the second activity; the Bosnia Festa, where students were able to connect as a whole – at one point even dancing a traditional Bosnian dance together. Moreover, we, especially the Japanese students, were able to have the chance to hear more about the horrors of the Bosnian war including actual memories from principal Amra. This really changed my view on life. Although we had known that horrible things had occurred, hearing the actual story of how it was like for a person just around our age brought a clearer vision of what people in war had to go through as well as the importance of certain things in life such as education and leisure that I partially have been taking for granted. After the Festa we went on a yakatabune boat where we all sang karaoke and took many pictures with the scenery, making one of the last days we had together, a very memorable and enjoyable one.

Today we went to Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree. In the morning, Bosnian students went sightseeing in Asakusa and were able to buy souvenirs of their choice. In the afternoon, everyone’s eyes lit up when they saw the view from the Sky Tree, which is 500 meters high. They took many pictures with each pair and everyone else, and had a lot of fun. Today was the fourth day of the project, and we were able to get to know each other better than ever! I think we are starting to get used to each other and building a very good relationship!

Today was a family day and we went to Asakusa to try the Kimono with my friend’s pair and our parents. We walked around Asakusa, and we enjoyed talking together. It was their first time trying the Kimono and we enjoyed it a lot. My pair was interested in the Japanese Kimono culture, so it has been a good experience for her. After finishing the Kimono program, we met my friends visiting from California and we all became good friends!

Today was the second day for Bosnian students to come to school. What I did first today was to go to a convenience store, which is the first time for my partner in order to buy his lunch. He was super interested in the displayed products, and his eyes lit up. Also, I took a civics class with Bosnian students and 3rd graders. We discussed the meanings and the backgrounds of some quotes left by great people about democracy, and whether we agree or disagree with them. Moreover, we enjoyed “Noh” and “Kyogen” and went to Shibuya today, too! Anyway, today was also a really fun day!!!!!

Today was the first day that we went to school together. My pair was surprised by the crowded trains in the morning. At school, we had a greeting ceremony for the Bosnian students and we welcomed them cheerfully. One of the morning classes they had was calligraphy which seemed pretty challenging for them. My pair said that he was very tired after the session. After school, we went to Shibuya which a lot of the Bosnian students were eager to go to. My pair was super amazed by the scramble square and the amount of people. We went shopping at Don Quijote and then we all had yakiniku together. My pair said that the yakiniku was delicious.
