中学3年生の3人がワールドスカラーズカップの世界決勝大会に参加し、優れた成績を残して帰ってきました！

以下は参加した生徒からの報告です。

From November 14th to the 23rd of 2018, two 3rd graders and I travelled to the United States to take part in the world final round of the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) , the Tournament of Champions, which was held at Yale University. We competed in the Senior Division, going against other high schoolers from more than 40 countries.

The academic activities that we took part in were mostly the same as the activities from the Barcelona round, them being debate, Collaborative Writing, a multiple choice test, and a quiz bowl. A memorable moment within the academic activities was the quiz bowl. The quiz bowl was an event where all the participants of the senior division would congregate in a large hall and choose answers to multiple-choice questions displayed in the front. What made this event exciting for me was the energy of it all. It was thrilling to be in a room with hundreds of students and to feel my heart race as my team and the teams around me would cheer or wail whenever the answers were displayed. The large scope of the event was truly breathtaking.

I managed to achieve the honor of a gold medal for debate, an honor shared only by the top few dozen participants, while the other 2 managing to get a gold medal for a special area, called the “Da Vinci Award”. While my academic experience was fun and my achievements were satisfying, it was the experience I had of traveling to New York that I felt was most valuable. On top of this, I was given a tour of the campuses of Yale, MIT, and Harvard, so I felt that this allowed me to further understand the atmosphere of colleges overseas.

2018年の11月14日から23日まで、私たち3人はイェール大学で開催されたワールドスカラーズカップ(WSC)の世界最終戦、「トーナメントオブチャンピオンズ」に参加するためにアメリカに行きました。40カ国以上から来た他の高校生と対戦しながら、シニアディビジョンで競争しました。

参加した活動は、バルセロナ大会の活動とほとんど同じで、ディベート、コラボレーティブライティング、多肢選択式テスト、そしてクイズボウルでした。学術活動の中で一番思い出に残った活動は、クイズボウルでした。クイズボウルとは、シニアディビジョンの参加者全員が大きなホールに集まり、正面に表示された多肢選択問題への答えを選ぶというイベントでした。何百人もの学生がいる部屋にいて、答えが表示されるたびに私のチームや周りのチームは大騒ぎし、とてもワクワクしました。

結果は、私はディベート分野で参加者のうちトップ数十人だけに与えられる金メダルを得るという栄誉を授かりました。そして他の二人は「ダ・ヴィンチ賞」と呼ばれる特別な金メダルを得ることが出来ました。今回のアカデミックな経験は楽しく、得られた結果も満足のいくものでしたが、私にとってニューヨークに行ったことそれ自体が最も価値あるものだと感じました。それに加えて、イェール、MIT、ハーバードのキャンパスを見学出来たことで海外の大学の雰囲気をさらに理解することができたと感じました。
